Solitude, by Clutter

In round 7 of Designers Challenge, in which every 2 weeks 2 home and garden designers will take the same RL picture as inspiration and create what they see in Second Life in their own way, Kat Alderson of Clutter and Rob1977 Moonites of *BEO* have been given a photo of a desk as inspiration.

Total Pieces: 8
Total Prims:48
Transfer only.

(by Kat Alderson)

I immediately fell in love with photo for the 7th SL Designer Challenge.  And then promptly panicked.

 Why?

The palette worried me: white is not easy to do well in SL, and while I love being a pink princess, purple and I often have issues.  The photo has contemporary and traditional elements, and a definite leaning toward shabby chic. Love it!  But, me?  Mix styles?  Really?

Oh, right!  It's a challenge!  I get it now!

Slapped the photo on a prim and rezzed it all around my workspace, so I would see it no matter which way I turned. So, I looked at the photo for a few days, and the palette didn't change. Nor did the fact that I was going to be mixing elements.

But I still loved the pic.  It spoke to me of peace, order, and solitude.

Eventually, I got to work, and here are the results.

Motivation by Maven Homes

In round 6 of Designers Challenge, in which every 2 weeks 2 home and garden designers will take the same RL picture as inspiration and create what they see in Second Life in their own way, Annunziata Macchi of MoltoBene! and Cain Maven of Maven Homes have chosen a picture of an adorable house as inspiration.

From Cain Maven of Maven Homes:

"In 1943, the psychologist Abraham Maslow published his theory on the hierarchy of needs.

Maslow illustrated his theory with a pyramid depicting the levels of human psychological and physical needs.

At the bottom level are basic needs such as food, water, sleep and shelter. The following levels provide safety, love and belonging, and esteem.

As a person ascends the steps of the pyramid they finally reach self actualization, the level where they realize their full potential.

Every journey up these steps starts at the bottom level, trying to find the bare necessities, including shelter from the elements.

Houses, in all their forms, are a vital part part of that first step on the path to self actualization.

In any world."

This is truly a work of art and an interesting place to reflect.

The Looking Glass' La Mer

In round 5 of Designers Challenge, in which every 2 weeks 2 home and garden designers will take the same RL picture as inspiration and create what they see in Second Life in their own way, Marcus Inkpen of the Looking Glass and Kayle Matzerath of the Garden of Dreams chose an intriguing picture of a fish as inspiration.

Or in the words of Kayle Matzerath: "This scene got inspired by an ugly bowl and an incredibly sad fish who escapes into a world of delicious fishfood and self delusion. Help him stay in his imaginary heaven and try to not wake him up o.O"

His is not just a design, it is a large environment, where humans and fish have taken eachothers place. Everywhere you turn, a new surprise pops up.

Quite the contrast with the intimate and delicate creation of Marcus Inkpen. A perfect glass violin replaced the ugly bowl as living space for the fish. It invites you to contemplate and to meditate on the music within yourself.

You have to go see these for yourself, in the Looking Glass or the Garden of Dreams (follow the beacon)!

Little Boxes Days Gone By

The inspiration pic Elle Kirshner of Second Spaces and Sesi Ackland from Little Boxes put together conjured up childhood summers, those days when they would spend hours and hours in the sun without a care in the world. They decided to create bedrooms since they both remember how, at the end of those sunny summer days, they would retreat to our cool and peaceful bedrooms...and then do it all over again the next day.

The pieces of Sesi Ackland's Days Gone By Bedroom Set are inspired by the emotions evoked by the color pallette in the Vintage Summer Collage. The photos have faded and yellowed slightly with age much like her memories made by hot, lazy summer days of my past.

The lines of the furniture are simple and relaxed which are reminiscent of my childhood summers. The long days were spent outdoors from morning to night and were spent without a care, she didn't return home until she heard the crickets. For relief and rest, Sesi would retreat to the comfort of her own room where she listened to music or talked on the phone until the sun rose again."

Second Spaces Peachtree

The inspiration pic Elle Kirshner of Second Spaces and Sesi Ackland from Little Boxes put together conjured up childhood summers, those days when they would spend hours and hours in the sun without a care in the world. They decided to create bedrooms since they both remember how, at the end of those sunny summer days, they would retreat to our cool and peaceful bedrooms...and then do it all over again the next day.

Elle Kirshner used the colors in the inspiration pic to drive the Peachtree bedroom, and put together the ideal room she always wanted when she was a kid...comfy and cozy and full of happy colors. She also always wanted a canopy bed, and never had one!

Elle named the set Peachtree after the street where she lived for most of her childhood and where she spent her happiest summers.

Peachtree Bedroom: canopy bed (with color change blanket), cabinet with accessories, hope chest with potted plant, comfy chair, side table, caged candle, vintage bird prints, seagrass rug

$L850 for the entire set (individual pieces also available for sale)

Homekraft's Heart U

In round 3 of Designers Challenge, in which every 2 weeks 2 home and garden designers will take the same RL picture as inspiration and create what they see in Second Life in their own way, Mainit Hellman from Baustein and GM Nikolaidis of Homekraft chose a picture of an Asian styled bathroom as inspiration.

The warm colors of the original photo grabbed GM Nikolaidis attention hard, so he made a fairly literal version initially. After messing with it for a few days he then decided that it was too static and needed a few more personal touches and a bit of interactivity.

The poses were then added to the sink, and a few bathroom items were thrown about on the counter. To make it a bit more fun he added the proverb stone, which whispers some clever or wise sayings when touched.

Baustein's Hatake Garden

In round 3 of Designers Challenge, in which every 2 weeks 2 home and garden designers will take the same RL picture as inspiration and create what they see in Second Life in their own way, Mainit Hellman from Baustein and GM Nikolaidis of Homekraft chose a picture of an Asian styled bathroom as inspiration.

The colors and the feel striked Mainit Hellman right away, it took a few hours of really thinking what he should do with it, then ideas started flowing through his head. He had ideas of this dragon, zen style garden set, with the warm colors and the flames of the dragons, of strength and courage.

Mainit created this set, creating each piece by hand, just like the asian craftsmen did. Perfect for friends and family to hang out in the garden, while the sun sets with its warm colors shining over the sky. Candlelight always burning so the dragons flames never going out. But the set works well inside to.

L.I.S.P. Bazaar's Summer set

In round 2 of Designers Challenge, in which every 2 weeks 2 home and garden designers will take the same rl picture as inspiration and create what they see in Second Life in their own way, Pandora Popstar from Lisp Bazaar and Gala Charron from Art Dummy have chosen the photo by Luc Viator entitled “Summer fields of Belgium”. They focused on the colors and the atmosphere and agreed to design something for a conservatory.

Pandora Popstar turned the sky into drapes with grassy fields and trees on the bottom. She made a rug with a grassy texture as a way of trying to bring the outdoors into an indoor set.

With the bench she tried to reflect the brightness of the picture and get a sunny, summery feel, and she took the hay bale and turned it into a bolster cushion. The side table is made of bark and grass, and the ladybug/bird vase has a tiny bug on the leaf.

She had seen some light bulbs in rl that had little glass flowers inside and with the lamps in SL and decided to make them more like real flowers with glass bulbs on them and they grow through the floor. They have a touch on/off light and glow effect.

The results of both designers can be found in both their shops L.I.S.P. Bazaar and *Art Dummy, on our blog and in our flickr group.

Art Dummy's highback chairs

In round 2 of Designers Challenge, in which every 2 weeks 2 home and garden designers will take the same rl picture as inspiration and create what they see in Second Life in their own way, Pandora Popstar from Lisp Bazaar and Gala Charron from Art Dummy have chosen the photo by Luc Viator entitled “Summer fields of Belgium”. They focused on the colors and the atmosphere and agreed to design something for a conservatory.

From the moment Gala Charron saw the picture of the meadow, all she could picture were highback chairs and tea. She wanted to pull the colors from the picture, the yellows, blues, and reds.

The set can be used in a casual summer room, a sunroom, or set up for an afternoon coffee session right on the lawn. It includes four highback chairs with animated sits, a table with a bright yellow runner, a coffee set with coffee pot that gives out a coffee cup and saucer, and pompom flowers in a blue vase.

The set may be purchased individually or as a set.
